The Duomo's construction, begun at the end of the 1300s, lasted for many centuries. One of the most
debated topics by architects was that relating to the style of the façade. The solutions proposed by the numerous architects who came in succession over time were many and varied. The two wooden models reproduced here, the left one by the architect Francesco Castelli and the right one by the architect Carlo Buzzi, synthesise the two main styles proposed during the 1600s, the first being in the contemporary Baroque style and the second a gothic façade, consistent with the rest of the Duomo's architecture.
