Looking at the Duomo of Milan from the center of its square has always been a unique experience. The unmistakable shape of its spiers makes it the symbol of the city in the world and since the beginning of the photographic technique it has certainly been the most photographed subject in the Lombard capital.
This image immortalizes the Cathedral and its square in the very first years of the twentieth century. A careful eye catches the many differences that exist with the present: the Cathedral still lacks its bronze doors, the "carousel of trams" runs in a circle around the large square and on the left stands the Palazzo della Rinascente in its Art Nouveau splendour.
